Motherhood
The Weight of Motherhood
Jade stood in her cramped kitchen, her hands deep in soapy water, scrubbing dishes that would never stay clean for long. The smell of burnt spaghetti lingered in the air, a reminder of her chaotic afternoon. Two-year-old Mia was fussing in the next room, her cries drowning out Jade’s thoughts. She had made promises to spend time playing with her but felt too heavy with the day's struggles to follow through.
Jade felt the pressure mounting. She longed to rush into Mia’s room, scoop her little girl into a hug, and forget the mess waiting for them. But guilt clung to her like the dirty dishes. In her heart, she knew she needed to focus on Mia, to be present. Yet, she felt her dreams slipping away. She was trying so hard to be a good mom, but some days it felt like she was failing. Sighing, she glanced at her phone, contemplating scrolling through social media for a moment's escape instead. It was safer; it wouldn’t demand anything of her.
Then, a message from her friend Sarah popped up, inviting her to a small group at church. Jade hesitated. Gathering with others meant opening up, sharing her struggles. It felt hard, almost too much for today. But she knew deep down that it could spark the boost she needed. The choice loomed. Would she hide, or would she step outside her comfort zone for the sake of her faith and her daughter?
