Anger

In the Heat of Anger

Sarah stood in the kitchen, staring at her phone. The words of the last text from her colleague, Jenny, rang in her ears: "You never take responsibility, do you?" It stung. The coffee pot gurgled beside her, a reminder that she hadn’t even poured a cup yet. Instead, she felt an overwhelming swirl of frustration, anger building inside like a balloon ready to pop. Today was supposed to be a good day. She had planned to finish the report early and maybe even treat herself to lunch, but here she was, on the verge of losing her temper. As she paced, Sarah felt torn. Part of her wanted to shoot back a snarky reply, to show Jenny she could stand her ground. "I’ll show her who's not responsible!" But another part whispered a familiar truth: anger often leads to more hurt. She remembered her childhood, how her mom would say, "You catch more flies with honey than vinegar." But the anger was buzzing. She thought of Jenny’s smirk during meetings, that little jab. What if she just let it all out? Let everyone know how she felt? The choice weighed heavily on her. Should she ignore the message, keep quiet, and let it fester? Or send a fiery response to assert herself? Then there was another path, one that felt harder. What if she reached out, asked for a conversation instead? She could feel the edge of her heart softening at the thought, but it would take courage. In the quiet kitchen, Sarah took a deep breath, taking in the smells of brewed coffee mixed with her anxiety, and faced her choice. The tension hung in the air, and she knew she had to decide soon.
