Anger
In the Heat of Anger
Sarah leaned against her kitchen counter, arms crossed tightly. The smell of burnt toast hung in the air, but she hardly noticed. Her phone buzzed on the table, a message from her coworker Sara. ‘Did you hear what Jamie said about our project? I can’t believe how careless she is!’
A knot tightened in Sarah’s stomach. Jamie had been acting distant, and the rumors hung around like a thick fog. She wanted to respond with a quick text, something sharp and cutting. The anger simmered inside her — it felt so easy to let it out. But Sarah held back, knowing that a kind word might break the tension. She thought of the last time she let anger take over, and how it only led to regret and broken relationships.
Her phone buzzed again. This time, it was Jamie, apologizing for her stress at work. The unease bubbled up, pushing Sarah toward two choices. She could ignore the text and let the anger brew, or she could respond with kindness. Neither choice came without a cost. Ignoring Jamie would protect her pride but might push them further apart. Responding kindly would take courage, and she feared it might make her feel weak.
But a small voice reminded her of Ephesians 4:26, ‘In your anger do not sin: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry.’ As she stood in that quiet kitchen, the weight of the choice hung heavily in the air. She knew deep down it wasn’t an easy answer yet. With a sigh, she held her breath, preparing for whatever came next, wondering if love would ultimately win out over anger.

It’s okay to feel anger, but how you act on it is what counts. Choose kindness and see how it changes the situation you’re in.
